PARADESI MUSIC REVIEW

Paradesi music review

Staring : Adharvaa, Vedhika, Dhansika, Uma Riyaz Khan

Director : Bala

Music : GV Prakash Kumar

Production : Bala

Bala’s films have always had raw and hard hitting numbers. He has produced some extraordinary albums in his films with Illayaraja and Yuvan Shankar Raja. For the first time Bala joins hands with GVPrakashumar and for the first time legendary lyric writer Vaiamuthu has penned lyrics for a Bala film. Does the album live up to the expectation?

1)Seneer Thana – Singers: Gangai Amaren,Priya Hemesh ; Lyrics: Vairamuthu

A hard hitting number from GV Prakash Kumar. Gangai Amaren’s soul-stirring voice adds the essential sympathy factor for the song. Vairamuthu’s lyrics clearly depicts the poor man's life in a poetic way, especially in lines like “Vaanathi vazhum nenjamum than Maarapai tharaamal oduthey”. Priya Hemesh’s humming is mention worthy.

Rating: 9/10

My Rating in the album: 2/5

2) Or Mirugam – Singers : Pragathi Guru Prasad, VV Prasana; Lyrics - Vairamuthu
The song starts with Pragathi’s haunting voice and when Prasanna’s vocal starts, it takes us to a different world. The song will surely go places, especially for the excellent instrumental and vocal usage. Pragathi’s voice sounds matured and suits the song. Again, Vairamuthu’s lyric is brilliant.

Rating: 10/10

My Rating in the album: 1/5

3) Sengade – Singers: Madhubalakrishnan; Lyrics – Vairamuthu
The song starts with the typical 80’s orchestration, but once Madhu Balakrishnan take off, the song grabs our attention. This song will find its place in the lines of “Pichai pathiram” and “Thai thindramanai”. Vairamuthu’s excellent lyrics portray the agony of slavery very well.

Rating: 8/10

My rating in the album:4/5

4) Avatha Paiyan- Singers: Yasin, Vandana Srinivasan; Lyrics : Vairamuthu
The only romantic song in the film and it is a beautiful number. Yasin and Vandana Srinivasan’s voice add beauty to the song. Once again Vairamuthu steals the show with his lyrics. This song reminds one of Ilayaraja's style of music.

Rating:8/10

My Rating in the album:3/5

5) Thannai Thaane - Singers: Gaana Bala, Lyrics- Vairamuthu
The song is a folk number on “Lord Jesus”. Gaana Bala’s voice brings out the feel of folk music very well.

Rating:6/10

My Rating in the album 5/5

Bottom line:
GV Prakash’s Paradesi album is not a commercial album that can go on to become a chartbuster from day one. But it will have a slow poison effect on the mind of the listeners making them addictive. A special mention on the wonderful lyrics by Kaviperarasu Vairamuthu.

Verdict : GV Prakash goes the Illayaraja\'s way
