Yennai arindhaal music review

Staring : Ajith, Trisha and Anushka

Director : Gautham Menon

Music : Harris Jayaraj

Production : Shri Sai Ram Creations

After 6 long years, Gautham Menon and Harris Jayaraj join hands to do a film for Ajith. The lyrics are by Thamarai. This is a deadly combination by all means and hence the expectation about the album is sky high. Let us see how the songs score…

Yaen Ennai … Sunitha Sarathy and Kharesma, Lyrics: Thamarai

The song opens with a western tune, but reminds you of several such Tamil songs. Nothing great about the song except that there are some sparkling moments.

Mazhai Vara Pogudhae… Singers:  Karthik, Emcee Jesz, Lyrics: Thamarai (cinemalead pick)

Karthik tugs the listeners’ heart with his honeyed yet energetic voice. The song oozes romance and the feel good factor is really enjoyable. Simple orchestration and the rap portions enhance the song’s beauty.   But one can’t get out of the heard it before feel.

Unakenna Venum Sollu… Singers: Benny Dayal and Mahathi, Lyrics: Thamarai (cinemalead pick)

Benny is singing a melody song after a long time and he sound refreshing. His pleasing vocal with guitar as the backdrop is such a pleasure to listen to. Thamarai’s lyrics stand out for simplicity. Mahathi gives a special classical touch to the song. Harris Jayaraj has the knack of making his songs very simple, yet likeable and hummable and this song will be in the lips of listeners for a long time.

The lyrics Oru velli kolusu pola intha boomi sinugum keezha aniyatha vairam pola antha vanam minugum…needs a special mention.

Yennai Arindhaal…Singers: Devan Ekambaram, Mark Thomas, Abhishek, Lyrics: Thamarai

Yennai Arindhaal  is the perfect song that matches the movie’s title. The song seems to be like a hero entry song and goes on to describe Ajith’s character and his different shades. The arrangements and dub step portions are interesting. This is a mass song for Ajith and his fans will lap this up. Devan’s singing is good. The only problem with the song is its length.

Adhaaru Adhaaru…Singers: Vijay Prakash and Gana Bala, Lyrics: Vignesh Shivan

The song was released earlier as a single track and the song is a mass one for the Ajith fans. There is nothing that’s outstanding about the song, except that it is very sing-along kind. But you feel that you’ve heard the tune several times before.

Maya Bazaar…Singers: Aalaap Raju, Priya Subramanian, Velmurugan and Krishna Iyer, Lyrics: Thamarai

4 singers and 4 genres of music! That’s what Maya Bazaar is about. From an energetic start to a retro feel to the Kalayana Samayal Sadham with drums and nagaswaram, the song stands out for its seamless flow.

Idhayathai Yedho Ondru…Singer: Chinmayi, Lyrics: Thamarai (cinemalead pick)

A beautiful melody in Chinmayi’s voice. The lyrics Oru vellikolusupole…repeats in the song. The piano portions, flute and guitar add to the tranquil beauty of the song. The song is simple, beautiful and soulful.

Plus points:

Simplicity of the lyrics and music

The feel-good factor and melodies

Minus points:

One can’t see the expected Harris Jayaraj –Gautham Menon chemistry in the album.  A major drawback is the ‘heard it before’ feel in some of the songs.

However, the songs are simple, pleasing and hummable and the songs will be liked by all and at least three of them will occupy the playlist for a long time!

Verdict : Simple and pleasant
